Dollar Tree DIY Fall Decorations

Many of these DIY ideas were inspired by decorations found at expensive High-End home decor stores but I was able to make them for less (much less!)! I love using Dollar Tree supplies to DIY and decorate my home. The Dollar Tree is the only store where you don’t have to check the price tag when you like something! I’ve found that is not the case when shopping at Home Goods, Target, and other home decor stores. Many of the below DIY projects were inspired by items I saw at other stores. One question I’m frequently asked is how I come up with my DIY ideas. Well, shopping at expensive stores and realizing I can make it for much less is one way!
Dollar Tree DIY Fall Decorations
Today we are making Dollar Tree Decorations to easily update your home decor for Fall, Thanksgiving, and even Halloween! Everything in the videos can be created in under an hour and most supplies can be found at the Dollar Tree!

1. Dollar Tree DIY Galvanized Word Runner With Pumpkin
A follower on Instagram sent me a picture of similar decorations available at Kirkland’s and asked me to create something similar using Dollar Tree supplies. These galvanized word runner with pumpkins is Kirkland’s Inspired!
Supplies:
- Wood Pumpkins
- 5-Gallon Paint Sticks (2)
- Galvanized Words
- Glue Gun
- Wood Stain
- Chalked Paint
- Pencil
- Sand Block
- Box cutter
- Hand Saw (I used this to cut the paint sticks in my video!)
Directions:
- Gather Supplies. Please watch the video below with more instructions and pictures!
- Sand the glitter off the wood pumpkins.
- Paint over the wood pumpkins and let dry.
- Measure the length of the paint stick to cut (mine was 14 inches).
- Use a hand saw or table saw to cut the piant stick curved end off.
- Stain the paint stick (I used this stain) and let dry.
- Use the paint stick to draw pencil lines on the painted pumpkins and use your finger to distress.
- Glue gun the bottom of the wood pumpkin to one end of the paint stick.
- Use a box cutter to make a slit down the center of the paint stick.
- Place the galvanized word inside the slit.

2. Dollar Tree Mini Signs with Fall Cardstock
I wasn’t planning on posting a DIY video with how I made these signs but this was too easy not to share! I’ve seen others replace the background on these small Dollar Tree signs and Target happens to carry scrap paper in the perfect size for these frames. This little booklet of paper (with bonus Fall stencils) is $3 in the Target One Spot section! The patterns and colors complement traditional or neutral Fall decor.
Supplies:
- Dollar Tree Mini Signs
- Fall Cardstock Paper
- Scissors
Directions:
- Gather Supplies. Please watch the video below with instructions and pictures!
- Use the cardstock to measure the inside of the sign.
- Cut to size.
- Place cardstock inside the frame (no need to glue).

3. Burlap Leaf Chalkboard Banner & Chalkboard Leaf Table Place Cards
This is a wooden chalkboard banner I made using Dollar Tree supplies… When I shared the wooden pumpkin banner (below), I woke up the next morning with the idea to use chalkboard paint… and this is the result!
Best of all…these leaf banners can be used as place cards too!
How cute would these be for a Fall/Thanksgiving table setting?
The cost is $3-$5 depending on how many leaves you make. I also added some Dollar Tree cotton stems to mine ❤
Supplies:
- Rope
- Wooden Leaves
- Burlap Leaves
- Chalkboard Paint
- Tacky Glue
- Chalk
Directions:
- Gather Supplies. Please watch the video below instructions and pictures!
- Paint the wooden craft leaves with chalkboard paint and let dry.
- Glue the chalkboard leaves to the burlap leaves.
- Twist the ends of the burlap leaves around a string of rope to create a banner.
- Cure the chalk by rubbing a piece of chalk over the leaves.
- Write a cute message or use as place cards!

4. Double-sided Wooden Pumpkin Banner (Fall & Halloween Banner)
I was trying to think of something to do with these Dollar Tree wooden pumpkins and I saw a similar wood pumpkin banner at Hobby Lobby so this banner is Hobby Lobby inspired… although I decided to make mine double-sided for Fall & Halloween!
Dollar Tree sells orange and yellow wooden beads so you can skip painting some if you have those.
Supplies:
- Wooden Craft Pumpkins (8 total)
- Alphabet Stickers
- Twine
- Tacky Glue
- Craft Paint
- Chalked Paint
- Wooden Beads
Directions:
- Gather Supplies. Please watch the video below with instructions and pictures!
- Place the pumpkins double-sided against each other so you have an idea which side to paint.
- Paint the front pumpkin red and the back pumpkin orange and let dry.
- Gather beads and paint orange and yellow and let dry (skip this step if you found orange and yellow beads at Dollar Tree).
- Place Alphabet stickers on the painted pumpkins to spell “FALL” on the front pumpkins and “BOO!” on the back pumpkins.
- Paint over the stickers with white paint and remove the stickers immediately.
- Touch up any areas on the pumpkins and let dry.
- String the beads on the twine and place the front and back of the pumpkin so the twine goes through the middle of the pumpkins.
- Use tacky glue to “sandwich” the pumpkins and twine together with the beads in between each pumpkin.
- Hang and enjoy!

5. Pumpkin Patch Sign
I saw a similar Pumpkin Patch sign Joann Fabrics Stores so this sign was Joan Fabric’s Inspired. I knew I could create my own version using Dollar Tree supplies and this was the result!
I attached this pumpkin inside a plain farmhouse sign ❤
Supplies:
- Pumpkin Sign/Large Wooden Craft Pumpkin
- Wooden Alphabet Letters
- White Alphabet Stickers
- Orange Paint
- Wood Putty
- Sanding block
- Tacky Glue
Directions:
- Gather Supplies. Please watch the video below with instructions and pictures!
- Sand the glitter off the pumpkin and remove the decoration at the stem (skip this step if you have a plain wood pumpkin)
- Paint the pumpkin orange and let dry.
- Use the wooden letters to spell “PUMPKIN PATCH,” paint them white and let dry.
- Dray 2 lines with a pencil on the pumpkin.
- Arrange the wooden letters on the orange pumpkin.
- Arrange the white alphabet stickers on the pumpkin to spell “OPEN DAILY.”
- Use tacky glue to attach the wooden letters.
- I attached my pumpkin to a white farmhouse sign using painters tape (read this post to learn how to make plain farmhouse signs using Dollar Store Supplies).

6. Buffalo Plaid Dollar Tree Wooden Houses
I finally did something with these popular Dollar Tree village houses. If you can’t find these at your local Dollar Tree, they were Spring 2019 find so hopefully they return again in Spring!

I ended up adding some Dollar Tree greenery, acorns, wooden fall stickers, burlap ribbon, & buffalo plaid ribbon to my houses (everything is from Dollar Tree!)
Supplies:
- Dollar Tree Wooden Houses
- Free Printable Buffalo Plaid Insert
- Greenery
- Acorns
- Wooden Fall Stickers
- Burlap Ribbon
- Buffalo Plaid Ribbon
- E6000 Glue
- Scissors
Directions:
- Gather Supplies. Please watch the video below with instructions and pictures!
- Use scissors to cut the free printable buffalo plaid insert to fit the houses.
- Cut the length of the burlap ribbon and shape into a small bow.
- Make a small bow with the buffalo plaid ribbon.
- Pull 3 sets of 2 leaves each from the Dollar Tree green vine.
- Arrange the leaves, the bows, and acorn or wooden Fall sticks on the houses.
- Use E6000 to glue everything together.
