Free Elf Printables
Each year we struggled to come up with ideas for our Christmas toy elf until I designed an elf costume for our elf. I wanted to create some elf clothes and elf ideas other than mischief so I made these elf superhero costumes. You can find toy elves at most stores during the holidays. I’ve seen cute toy elves and funny-looking elves. You could also check Etsy for vintage elf toys and use these free printables as a fun Christmas toy. Download the elf printables PDF below to make these Free Printable Elf Superhero Costumes!
In Case You Are in a Hurry…
We love it when our elf, Kristopher, returns every year. Our elf rarely practices “naughty” tricks but he does make us laugh. If you have a Christmas elf, you may have noticed all the elf ideas on the internet and that’s why I came up with these printable costumes for any Christmas elf.
Christmas Elves have become a popular Christmas tradition in many households. Part of the fun of this tradition is the mystery and magic surrounding the elf’s presence. The idea is that the elf works for Santa Claus, sent to keep an eye on children and report back to Santa about their behavior. Each night, the elf moves to a new location in the house, creating a sense of excitement and anticipation for children as they wake up each morning to find their elf in a new spot.
Not only does the Christmas Elf encourage good behavior in children during the holiday season, but it also provides a fun and interactive way for families to bond and create memories. Children can engage in creative play by imagining what their elf is doing while they sleep, and the whole family can enjoy the excitement of finding the elf in a new location each day leading up to Christmas.
Overall, the Christmas Elf is a fun and playful way to add some extra magic to the holiday season and create lasting memories with loved ones.
When should Elf on Shelf Arrive?
Our elf arrives the day after Thanksgiving. That gives him plenty of time to visit and do fun things each night until Christmas Day. Our elf leaves a special “welcome back” letter when he arrives and leaves a “goodbye” letter and small gifts for the children when he leaves.
Elf Superhero Costumes
These Elf Superhero costumes fit most Barbie dolls too! The Elf masks and capes are a bit bigger than most Barbies, so I included smaller masks in the PDF if you are printing these for Barbie too. An idea that we plan to do is have a few Barbies and the elf hanging out like a superhero get-together, lol.
My kids love superheroes and although they have their favorite superhero, they will enjoy seeing the elf dressed as all of them 🙂
Best of all, you can store these flat in an envelope or plastic sleeve for next year so you are not adding more stuff to your home.
How to Make Elf Costumes
Supplies:
- Free Printable (get it below)
- Lightweight White Card Stock
- Small Scissors
- Hole Puncher (optional)
- Scotch Tape
Instructions:
- Print the free printable file on lightweight cardstock (if you print on printer paper the costumes will not be durable).
- Use small scissors to cut each one. Small scissors will be easier than a larger pair. It took me around 20 minutes to cut everything out by hand.
- Use a hole puncher to punch the eyes. This step is optional but I liked seeing the elf’s eyes through the mask. The only mask I did not punch was Iron Man.
- Place the costumes in an envelope or plastic sleeve protector until ready for use.
- Use tape to attach to your Elf or Barbie doll.
Here is an idea of the Elf Printables included in the free PDF
If you’re looking for some fun and creative Elf on the Shelf superhero costume ideas, you’ve come to the right place! Here are a few pictures of our Elf modeling the costumes.
Also, our elf’s hat came off halfway through his photoshoot so if that happens to yours or you want to take the hat off for some of the costumes, just know that you can always glue it back on.
Batman Costume for Elf
Batman Elf: Dress your elf in a black cape and mask with a Batman logo. You can also add a utility belt using a black ribbon or paper.
Batman is my son’s favorite superhero and my daughter loves female superheroes so I made a Bat Girl too.
Captain America Costume for Elf
Captain America Elf: Dress your Elf in a blue shirt and attach a white star to their chest. You can also print out the shield to attach to their arm. I made the Captain America mask to match the sheld which are both included in the free printable.
Hulk Elf Costume
My son dressed up like Hulk this past Halloween and is going to love our Elf as Hulk.
Spiderman Costume for Elf
My son was Spider-Man for Halloween when he was a baby and still loves him.
Spiderman Elf: Dress your Elf in the free printable Spider-Man mask and add black spider webs to their chest and arms. Hang him upside down on a light for the ultimate display!
Elf Iron-Man Costume
Then there’s Iron Man – I included the chest plate and the mask in the free printable!
Wolverine Elf Mask
Here’s Wolverine. I know this is a mixture of X-Men, Justice League, and The Avengers… but there’s something for everyone with this free printable Christmas Elf PDF.
Here are a few pics of my daughter’s Barbies and our Christmas Elf, Kristopher hanging out on a Christmas wreath. Once you have all of the masks and capes cut, place them in an envelope for next year so you don’t need to cut them every year.
With these free printable costumes, your elf can have a superhero party with other Elves or Barbie dolls!
If you are still thinking about doing this, just do it, you know your kids are gonna love it (and so will you)!
These Christmas Elf free printables will help you create countless Elf ideas for the holidays. Click on the Pink button below to download the free printable so you can easily dress your Elf for Christmas. These Elf superhero costumes are fun for adult humor too, but your kids will love the Elf dressed up the most. These are just a few ideas to get you started. You can also create your superhero costume using other characters as inspiration. Have fun and let your creativity soar!
Does the elf move every night?
Yes, your elf should move every night. If your elf doesn’t move, there is probably a good reason (mom & dad forgot, lol).

I cant seem to get these =( I used my email and nothing and today used my company email and never got anything..
Hi Nancy,
You need to confirm your subscription, please check your spam/junk folder, the email was delivered to you Nov 28 at 3:37pm. If you are still having issues, you could try using another email address.
Hi Melanie,
I confirmed my subscription, clicked to view the library, put in the password, and even still I am not able to download these adorable print outs.
Can you please assist me? My son will fall in love with this.
Hi Des, Once you log into my library, scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see the Elf Super Hero picture, click on the link/description below the picture and the PDF will automatically download to your computer/device. You need a PDF program such as Adobe to open PDF files. I hope your son loves these! Please let me know the exact issue you are having if this answer doesn’t help.
I followed the directions in the email and still cant download the pdf…it still redirects me to the sign up page
Hey Mike, Don’t click on the picture, click on the link/description below the picture (that’s the PDF and will automatically download once you click on it). Let me know if you still have problems, Enjoy!
I followed the instructions numerous times and still cant download/find the PDF it constantly takes me to sign up page. I have not clicked on the picture just the sentence below it that states click HERE
Hi Jeremiah,
Do you have a PDF program installed? You need a PDF program such as Adobe in order for the PDF to download. Once you log into my digital library, you will see the Elf picture and under it and it does not say “click here” it says “Elf on the Shelf Super Hero Costumes (for Barbie too)” in pink and when you hover over it, it changes color to green – click on that phrase which is the PDF file. I’m not sure where you are seeing “click HERE.” Please let me know if you need anything else.
I m having the same issue as Jeremiah. i have Acrobat installed on my laptop but the forms will still not automatically download. When I see “GRAB THE FREE PRINTABLE ELF COSTUMES HERE (IF YOU ARE A CURRENT SUBSCRIBER, PLEASE CHECK YOUR LAST EMAIL FROM ME FOR THE ACCESS INSTRUCTIONS).” I clicked HERE and signed up. Then, I got the confirmation email. From there, I followed the instructions in the email: “templates, images and guidelines!
CLICK HERE TO GET ACCESS TO THE LIBRARY
I clicked this and it took me to your site and i entered the password that was in my email.
Then, I scrolled down to the bottom until I found the picture of the elfs and clicked the “Free Printable Elf on the Shelf Super Hero Costumes” and nothing downloads.
Please help!
Are you able to download anything else in the library? If not, I suspect it is an issue with your computer. Try right-clicking on the text “Elf on the Shelf Super Hero Costumes (for Barbie too)” and choose to save the link or open in another tab (mine auto-downloads when I choose to open in another tab). If you are still having an issue, you could try another device (another computer, Ipad, phone, etc). The Elf printable has already been downloaded hundreds of times so it is working correctly for many others. Please let me know if you still have issues after trying the other options I mentioned.
I also have followed each instruction to the T – even those you responded with above ^ I am still unable to download these. There is no link that allows you to download them. It only redirects you to signing up, AGAIN. Frustrating to say the least.
Hi Emily, Another subscriber just informed me that she had this issue and was using Mozilla FireFox and could not see the link. She switched to Internet Explorer and was able to see the link. I use Google Chrome which works as well. I hope that helps you get those freebies!
I was following the comments above as I was having the same issue, and I was able to print! It will not open if you’re using Mozilla FireFox. I had to use Internet Explore for the download to start. Hop this helps.
Hey Yasmeen – Thank you so much for leaving a comment regarding this! I only use Google Chrome and Internet Explorer and I would have never thought to try Firefox! I’m adding a note to my digital library for future users to use IE or Chrome! Thanks again!
okay i know when u click on the link in email, it takes u to all the printables she kindly shared for us 🙂 You scroll down to where you see the super heros printables but, do not click on the picture click on the pink words under it. i kept clicking on pic then looking for the pink words she told us about. Thank you so much for these
You’re welcome! Glad you figured it out!
Oh my goodness. You know you have a problem when you spend an hour trying to find the access point to an elf printable that never materializes. I want this so bad yet no matter what I do, I can’t find it. I’ve followed all of the instructions per the other confused people, I answered your survey, I confirmed my email. I’m using a preferred search engine. I have adobe. I cannot for the life of me see where to sign in to your library. I keep having the same experience as the other elf seekers being flipped back to signing up all over again. I refuse to give up on BatElf! Please help! Thanks Melanie.
Samantha.
Hi Samantha,
Can you download anything else in the library? If not then there is an issue on your end. Do not click on the picture – that will keep taking you back to the post with instructions on how to make the superhero costumes. ***You need to click on the PINK text under the picture*** If you have Adobe installed then the PDF should auto-download to your computer. Otherwise, right click on the PINK TEXT and choose to SAVE AS on your computer and save to your preferred folder. If you don’t see the PINK TEXT under the picture then you should try a different browser (Chrome or Explorer). Everyone else eventually figures out what they are doing wrong and is able to download the free printable. I’m adding specific instructions with step by step pictures to the Elf post so if you need further instructions scroll to the bottom of the post here https://simplemadepretty.com/free-printable-elf-on-the-shelf-super-hero-costumes-works-for-barbie-too/
I just sent you an email Samantha 🙂
I have tried using 2 different emails and still have not gotten an email in spam or in my inbox. Is there any way for you to confirm that you send the email to me?
Thanks!
Christy
Hi Christy,
I don’t see you as a subscriber using the gmail address you entered here. Please email me at [email protected] with the other email you entered and I can check your subscription.
Tried multiple times, and can’t get it to ever show me those illusive pink words. :\
Hi Chelle, Sorry to hear you are having issues. What browser are you using?
Just got the password email! Yay! Disregard the above. It won’t let me cancel lol
Hi Brittany, Glad you figured it out! Enjoy!
Thank you for sharing! I was able to sign up and download without any problems! My question is the marks on the page, are these able to be cut on a cricut machine? The black guide marks look like it, would’t that be amazing and quick.
Thanks again, looking forward to exploring your site just as soon as life slows down. lol
Hi Jenn! Yep – I use design space to make a majority of my free printables and save as PDFs 🙂 but I actually just cut the elf costumes out by hand and it only took 20 minutes, which is probably faster than the Cricut machine since it would have to read each mark and cut each page. Also, since I uploaded some of the images I used, I am unable to share the link to “make it now” in Cricut Design Space :/
I just joined so I could print this, but I haven’t received the instructions or password.
Hi Jody, The welcome email with the access instructions was sent on Dec 11th at 6:14pm. Please check your spam/junk folder.
Hi Melanie,
I’ve tried subscribing 3 times but no confirmation email is sent to either of my emails. Can you please send the superhero printable to me?
Hi Blagica, The confirmation email was sent to your address ending in @education.wa.edu.au on Dec. 6th at 7:39pm. Please check your spam/junk folder for the email. You need to confirm your subscription, then the email with the access instructions will be sent.
I’ve searched inbox, junk and even deleted but it hasn’t come through. I tried subscribing earlier today but no email. Can you send another confirmation email?
Hi Blagica, My email service provider is having an issue today so I will have to get back to you when they fix it, however, I’m showing that you subscribed with the @education.wa.edu.au email and received the welcome email on December 6th. Make sure you add my email address, [email protected] to your contact list – that way your email provider doesn’t block my emails or send them to your Junk/Spam folder.
It’s working now if you would like to resubscribe – please let me know if you have any problems and sorry about the wait time!
I also have not received the email. I have checked my junk mail and i have tried a few times.
Hi Rachael, My email service provider is having an issue, I will get back to you with the info you need as soon as they fix it. Thanks for your patience!
Rachael, It’s working now if you would like to resubscribe – please let me know if you have any problems and sorry about the wait time!
Hi! I subscribed to you newsletter this morning, but I haven’t gotten any kind of confirmation e-mail. (It’s not in my spam folder either.) I’d love to use the superhero printable tonight if possible. Thanks for your help! 🙂
Hi Dana! My email service provider is having an issue, I will get back to you with the info you need as soon as they fix it. Thanks for your patience!
Dana, It’s working now if you would like to resubscribe – please let me know if you have any problems and sorry about the wait time!
I’ve tried to subscribe 3 or 4 times now and don’t have any email with a password, I’ve checked my junk mail as well. What can I do?
Hi Rebecca, I’m having an issue with my email service provider right now so you will not receive an email with the details until it is resolved. I’ll message you back when it’s back up.
LOL, I should’ve read through the comments before repeatedly submitting my email address without results! :/
Hi Jamie, It should be working now so you can resubscribe – if you have any problems please let me know!
Rebecca, It’s working now if you would like to resubscribe – please let me know if you have any problems and sorry about the wait time!
I am having the same problem as everyone else. I have been trying to sign up since before Thanksgiving. Today I was able to get the confirmation email and confirmed my subscription multiple times but have not gotten the password email- not in spam, junk or any or location.
Hi Sheila – I’m showing you received the email with the instructions at 12:20pm today. Please let me know if it’s not in your spam/junk folder and I will resend the instructions.
I love this however I can’t seem to find the password. I received your welcome email and must be missing something, I don’t see where the email has a password to be able to download the file. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and Merry Christmas.
Hi Kristi,
Yes, the info is at the bottom of the welcome email where it says “Now for the FREEBIES” in bold. Please let me know if you still don’t see it and I can resend it. Merry Christmas!
Thank you for responding. I don’t see that on the email I have. Would you mind resending it? Thank you so much for your patience.
Just sent you email 🙂
Melanie, I have signed up twice and confirmed my email twice, but never received another email with directions (and password) to access the library. I have checked my spam folder multiple times but that email never arrived. I did however receive your recent newsletter, but never an email with instructions to access. Can you please help?
Hi Heather! The welcome email shows it was delivered on December 21st but if you can’t find it, just check my recent newsletter. My digital library access instructions are included in every newsletter I send out so you can always check your last email from me 🙂 If you still can’t find the instructions after checking that last email, please let me know.
Is this site still up and running? I’ve tried to subscribe so I can get the free superhero printables, but I never get an e-mail (yes, I’ve checked my spam/junk folder). I just want to print them. 🙁
Hi Kim,
It looks like you got the password to the library but you subscribed to the general free printables and not the elf specifically. The only difference is you will need to log into the library, scroll to the Christmas printables to find the free PDF. Let me know if you still have issues. Melanie
does not work
Hi Angela,
I’m showing you subscribed and received the email to gain access to the library – are you still having issues?
Hi,
I confirmed subscription about 3 times but didn’t get the second email for password access for library
Hi Kerri, Did you click the CONFIRM button that came in the email? I’m showing you have yet to open the email to confirm your subscription.
These are great! I didn’t have a problem subscribing and getting them. Thank you for sharing them!!
Good to hear Amanda! Enjoy!
