Hi there, I’m Melanie and Welcome to Simple Made Pretty!
About me: I’m a homemaker, DIYer, craftaholic, home organizer, minimalist, writer, thirty-something mom of two amazing children, our fur-baby, and wife to an incredible husband of 8 years.
My mission is to create simplicity in homemaking tasks while providing DIY ideas that spark creativity.
I have a small obsession with collecting coffee mugs and wine corks – which might also reveal that I have a love for coffee and wine 🙂
But enough about me… because I’m here for you and this website was made for you.
I’m here to help you find simple solutions to your homemaking struggles and also want you to have fun trying some of the easy (and free) DIY projects on my blog.
But, first, let’s go over what homemaking consists of because I feel like the term today gets confused with a 1950’s version of a housewife (it’s definitely much more than that and it’s definitely not just women or stay at home moms who are homemakers).
Make sure you have a cup of coffee (or glass of wine) and you are ready to read because this About page is super long (however, it’s filled with awesomeness!)
If you are curious about what homemaking really entails, here is my favorite definition of a homemaker from Urban Dictionary:
“A person, usually a woman, who cares for her home by cleaning, cooking nutritious meals, doing laundry, running errands, caring for pets, working with a budget, organizing, etc. She is her own boss and enjoys her freedom of creating her own schedule. She does not have time to be lazy.
She realizes her value of her unpaid job as a homemaker because it brings stability to the family and less stress for all. “
Sooooo… hopefully, your takeaway from that definition was homemakers are pretty much everyone 🙂 because if you have a roof over your head, clothes on your back, want food in your belly, have any amount of money in your pocket… then you are in fact, a homemaker.
Now that you got that, let me explain why Simple Made Pretty features DIY projects and how DIY Projects tie into homemaking.
DIY projects are a major part of frugal living, saving money, helps you budget, and DIYing will support your overall homemaking goals. Want to learn how to turn a closet into a functional mudroom for your family for less than $30? Need some frugal (or free) gift ideas for teachers, coworkers, and friends? You will find these solutions PLUS more fun and useful craft projects under DIY Made Simple.
Soooo…if all that sounds like you, then you are in the right place and I’m so happy to have you!
My vision is to become the top online resource for homemakers and those looking to discover creative DIY ideas.
I just want to say thanks in advance for helping me achieve this vision 🙂

How Simple Made Pretty started…
I started Simple Made Pretty in January 2016 to showcase my biggest passions: organizing, simplifying, home décor, DIY projects, and crafting. I grew up on a farm with 5 siblings and was raised to work hard with a simple lifestyle. I learned how to sew, clean, cook and live frugally at a young age. I found that many of my close friends did not have the hand-made, home-grown roots as I did and would always comment on my creativity and my “Martha-Stewart-like” characteristics. Those same friends encouraged me to share my passions with others and the Simple Made Pretty blog was born.
My family is my inspiration for all that I do. My husband is my biggest supporter and he is what keeps our family going each day…he is one of my greatest blessings and I am forever grateful for him.
The best way to stay connected is to sign up for my free weekly email newsletter, which offers inspiration and tips with links to my latest blog posts.
