This blog that you are reading would not be what it is today if I never discovered How To Turn Your Hobby Blog into a 6-Figure Business. Not too long ago, I wanted to grow my hobby blog into a full-time business but I wasn’t sure how to make that happen until I discovered the secret to successful bloggers. This one thing can change your blog (and your life)!
But first, here’s more background on my blogging journey…
Back in 2010, I started a mommy blog and I had no idea what I was doing. I love writing and wanted to make money online while being a new stay-at-home-mommy so I monetized my site with Google AdSense and Amazon Associates. I wrote a few sponsored posts for retailers that offered free products/giveaways in exchange for product review posts and that was it.
That blogging journey quickly ended when I returned to working full-time in 2011 and I didn’t start blogging again until January 2015 (the blog you are reading today). I was still working a full-time day job with a crazy commute when I started this blog (you can read about how I finally quit my job and started blogging full time in my post When I Realized I Couldn’t be a Full-Time Working Super Mom).
My main reason for starting another blog was to showcase my creative side online and promote my Etsy products. I opened my Etsy shop at the same time I started blogging in 2015) while wanting to share my ideas for home improvement, crafts, and DIY projects online.
It wasn’t as easy as I thought the second time around. The blogging world seemed much more competitive and social media changed the blogging industry since I had that little mommy blog 5 years earlier.
After a year of blogging part-time with some side income generated from my Etsy shop, I decided to commit more time and effort to turn this blog into a money-making business so I quit my day job on a whim! Crazy, right? Well, if you knew what my life was like before, you would too (you can read about it here).
How I found what I was missing…
One day I was on a blog (kinda like the one you are reading right now, hehe) and Rosemarie with The Busy Budgeter was talking about how she was making a full-time income blogging. She mentioned that she was making $22,000 a month in only 18 months after taking an online blogging course called the Elite Blog Academy (or EBA for short). I was so inspired by her story that I subscribed to be notified when EBA’s next enrollment opened – which you can do too HERE and get a fabulous free eBook from Ruth Soukup (EBA’s founder) “7 Surefire Ways to Boost Your Blog Income Overnight.”
It was around that same time that I wrote this post and quit my day job without another job lined up. I was relying on my blog to support our family, however – I was making very little blogging!
I felt a little crazy taking a chance like that but I knew God had a plan for me…
After signing up on the EBA wait list that January, I assumed I’d be waiting until Fall when the usual enrollment opened. But then a miracle happened! EBA announced they were opening a Spring enrollment in the same week that I quit my day job 🙂
I had already discussed taking EBA with the hubby since he was onboard with me quitting my job (even though we had a little money coming in from my side) so I enrolled in the Spring course as soon as I received the announcement.
It was perfect timing since I had NO IDEA how I was going to turn my blog into a thriving business. I took it as a sign from God and everything seemed to fall into place after that.
The investment I made in myself
As I mentioned above, I discussed taking the EBA course with the hubby before making the big purchase. At the time, it was $500 and a big investment for someone that just quit their day job! But I knew with any business, you have to invest some money (and in this case, I was investing in myself), so the purchase was justifiable.
I remember taking the money to pay for EBA that I had been saving for my new car fund – I was saving for a new car for several months because mine was seriously about to die – but I quickly earned that money back and guess what? My car died 6 months later but I was able to buy my dream car with the money I was able to re-save that I made from blogging.
You may not have a new car fund or may be living paycheck to paycheck… just keep in mind that many bloggers (including myself) easily earns that $500 back in the first 6-12 months of blogging after taking EBA.
Also, our family’s motto when it comes to paying for something to better yourself is “You can always make more money.”
Looking back, I would have paid a lot more for the course because the value is SO worth it!
How my life changed…
I’ve come A LONG way through my blogging journey and it was a lot of hard work (and still is) but it is also SO WORTH IT! My life has completely changed for the better since I took the leap to quit my day job and start blogging full time.
I get to make my own schedule which means I see my kids and hubby more while working from home. My INSANE 2-hour daily commute is now history! I’m at the happiest point in my entire life… and life is really good?
Those first few months that I was working from home and had more time with my family were some of the best months of my entire life. I realized that I was missing some really important experiences for myself and with my family.
The hubby also works at home (he’s a realtor) and we share a home office together. We used to schedule date nights once a month but now we have a daily lunch date together – either in our own kitchen or we run errands on our lunch break (and yes, we schedule our lunch breaks even though we work at home, hahaha).
Being able to stay at home and blog full time gave me clarity that I never experienced before. There was this newfound freedom that I can’t explain – I just hope you can experience it as well and I know that enrolling in the Elite Blog Academy will help you achieve the blog you want in order to get the life you desire!
Why YOU Need This Course
If you are thinking of starting a blog or want to make a full-time income from your blog, you need the EBA course! Most bloggers will agree with me when I say that blogging should be offered as a 4-year college degree!
There is so much to learn about setting up a website, how to write better, how to get traffic to your website, how to create images for your blog posts, how to connect with other bloggers, how to take your blog to a business level by launching products, sponsored posts, ads and so much more!
Ruth provides many valuable tips in EBA that you cannot find in any other blogging course – I know because I’ve taken them all and read all the eBooks (just check out my Resources Page if you don’t believe me, haha).
A few more tips from an EBA Alumni – (that’s me :))
Take your time going through EBA
This course is self-paced but to get the most out of it, you should not speed through the modules. Take your time and make sure to complete each assignment and watch each video. Many students take several months to complete the course (it took me 7 months to complete it!). In order to be successful and see growth, you have to take your time.
Growth will start almost immediately
Although it took me 7 months to get through the course, I saw growth almost immediately. Three months into the course is when my blog traffic tripled and had consistent growth since. The course helped me accomplish tasks that I was too scared to try on my own and gave me that extra push to finally put myself out there.
