We recently bought our third fixer-upper home and I promised myself that I would be different decorating this house. In the past I’ve always played it safe, choosing practical, neutral paint colors… so this house I wanted to be different. Right before I went crazy painting the walls and doors black (lol), I discovered peel and stick wallpaper. I was so excited that I could try something outside my comfort zone but not be committed to keeping it that way forever because I could just peel it off if I didn’t like it! I started with 3 different peel and stick wallpaper designs in our home but ended up putting together this post as inspiration for later 🙂 Here are 8 Popular Peel And Stick Wallpapers That’ll Instantly Update Your Home Decor!
Peel and stick wallpaper has become very popular recently since not everyone has access to tools to build their own Shiplap walls (thanks Chip and Joanna) or wants to tile an entire wall with subway tile. I love tiling but if I could slap up some wallpaper and call it a day, that would make me, the hubby, and my wallet happy!
You can find peel and stick wallpaper online at Target, Amazon, Home Depot, and more! I’ve linked my favorite peel and stick wallpaper and the ones I’ve used personally below.
You’ll need a squeegee or smoothing tool of some sort… I used my Cricut smoothing tool but this one is very similar and will help smooth out bubbles!
Tips on using peel and stick wallpaper
Let me just say that the pros make it look super easy and I’m here to tell you it’s not!
I’ve watched Instagram and YouTube videos of people applying peel and stick wallpaper and they have a wall done in minutes. It took me an hour and one roll ($35) to one small wall in our breakfast nook.
Patience is Key
If you don’t have the time or patience to apply peel and stick wallpaper, just don’t. You will end up frustrated and throwing out an entire roll later.
Plan & Measure
Another tip is to make sure you buy enough rolls to complete your desired project in one order. The reason for this is because of stores like Target that print the wallpaper in “lots” or batches. Target peel and stick wallpaper have a lot # on the side… meaning the color and design should match perfectly if the rolls are from the same lot. I ended up ordering extra rolls for our kitchen and had to cut and adjust on the last wall in order to make it work.
Lining up those shiplap lines is not easy!
Start Over
Even if you buy from the same lot, it takes a good eye to line up those lines or the design. The good thing is if you mess it up, you can peel it off and start over again. When I did this some paint from the wall did peel up with the wallpaper, but I was still able to stick it back down and it stayed put!

Paint Versus Peel & Stick Wallpaper
The cost to wallpaper depends on if you find a sale, how much you need to cover space, and other considerations. In my experience, it’s cheaper to paint, however, I splurge on the wallpaper in our home when the cost to paint is greater.
I hope this post inspired you to try peel and stick wallpaper. There are so many different designs and colors and once you get the hang of applying the wallpaper, you will want to put peel and stick wallpaper in the closet, cabinets, bookcases, and more!

How to pick the right paint colors
Have you ever had trouble picking the right paint colors for your home? Choosing the right paint colors for your home can be overwhelming. There are so many different “whites” and “grays” these days, how can anyone know they are making the right paint color choice?
That’s why I put together the best tips on How to Choose Interior Paint Colors in this post.
Every home is different… the entryway in our first home was much different than the entryway in our second home, and both of those were very different from the entryway in our third home! So I chose a different paint color for each entryway in all three of our homes. Not to mention, from the time that we bought our first home, to the time that we bought our third home, home paint color trends changed drastically. The colors that I used back then were no longer a trendy color and well, I just didn’t like the brown-ish tan that was in our first home, haha.
So if you need help choosing paint colors for the rest of your home, head on over to this post to see my paint-picking tips and what has worked for me in all three of our homes 🙂 My post with how to choose paint colors for your home is one of my most popular posts and readers have benefited from reading it before heading to the store to buy paint that ends up not working out.
I also have some ideas for choosing paint color combinations for bedrooms (with themes!)
Cheap Home Hacks that’ll Increase Value
Renovating a home can come with a high price tag if you’re not budgeting and deciding which updates bring the best return on investment. After selling our updated first home in just 4 years, we bought an even bigger house that needed a lot of updating. We sold our second home after 4 years while doing the much-needed work to produce a profit by following the same strategies we did in our first home.
