In case you are wondering if these Cricut Mugs dishwasher safe, no they are not. If you are giving these mugs as Cricut Christmas gifts, then be sure to include a note to the recipient that these mugs need to be hand-washed ONLY. The issue with washing in the dishwasher is because some dishwashers have extremely high heat settings which will basically melt off the permanent vinyl. When using Cricut vinyl on mugs, it’s best to handwash with warm soapy water.
How To Make A Coffee Mug With Cricut:
- Cricut Explore/Silhouette cutting machine
- 12 x 12 Cricut Cutting Mat
- SVG file (get it free below or use your own image)
- Permanent Vinyl (I used a shiny red permanent vinyl)
- Transfer Tape
- Coffee Mugs (I used these)
- Gather supplies and watch the video below for more info.
- Cut the SVG image (or your own image) using your Cricut or Silhouette cutting machine, then weed the image. My Mug Images were sized 3″ x 2.5″ but you might want to size yours differently depending on the size of your mug. I do not show cutting the image with my Cricut in the video below but if you need help cutting vinyl with your Cricut, check out my Cricut Courses here!
- Apply the transfer tape to the weeded image, peel back the vinyl paper and press the image firmly on the mug.
- Peel back the transfer tape and you’re done!

I used these mugs in my guest room during the holidays. I thought it would be cute to make a matching tray to go with the mugs when entertaining during the holidays. The “Fa-la-la-la-la” is not included in the free SVG file because it was purchased on another website) but you can easily make your own using a fun Cricut font in Design Space!
